Introduction to Amethyst

Meet Amethyst

A little history:

Amethyst is arguably the most recognizable stone on Earth. It is a type of quartz crystal, which gives it the ability to amplify other crystals, especially the ones that are associated with the third eye Chakra or other stones that promote peace or relief from anxiety.

This stone is connected with Saturn, meaning it can help us when Saturn is in retrograde. (As I create in depth courses I will go in more detail about this. To keep up with future classes/information be sure to sign up for the email list)

Amethyst has a rich purple color and is often associated with Bacchus; the Greek God of wine, the Greeks even had drinking vessels made of Amethyst to drink wine or water from. Oddly enough Amethyst is also known as the sobriety stone. Even back during the times of the

Greeks they would sometimes use an Amethyst goblet to drink their water from because the Amethyst would give off a purple hue, implying they are drinking wine, even though it was water; this was done in order to avoid peer pressure!

The name comes from a-methystos which means, "not" and, "intoxicate." Amethyst was used in history to help prevent drunkenness!

Amethyst was used for many other things throughout history.

Even Cleopatra herself wore a ring made of the purple stone to represent enlightenment and love, then there were the Roman matrons who believed wearing a piece of Amethyst would represent fidelity.

The English regalia also wore Amethyst during the middle ages to symbolize royalty. 

This stone's usage can be traced back all the way to as early as 2,000 BC.

Amethyst is one of the twelve official named birthstones, specifically representing the month of February.

It was also one of the twelve gemstones that was said to line the walls of Heaven in the Book of Revelations.

Let's get into how Amethyst can amplify your life!

-It is said that this purple stone is great at bringing peace of mind even in a noisy environment where everything seems to be out of balance.

-The deep purple hue and the energy of this stone helps to bring you back to your own inner equilibrium. 

-Amethyst helps with negative thought patterns too, it helps to ease the distractions in your mind by creating space between you and your thoughts. 

Additional things Amethyst can help with:

-It has been used during Reiki sessions or other energy work to help bring in a calming, peaceful energy, filled with love. 

-It can be used to help with nightmares or insomnia- Set the intentions for this specifically and then sleep with it under your pillow, under your bed, or on your night stand.  (A great stone for kids that have trouble sleeping)

Working with Amethyst 

To keep your amethyst working at its highest potential; remember to cleanse your amethyst regularly and set the intentions again.

-You can use this crystal during meditation by holding it in your hand or over your third eye. 

-Sleep with it under your pillow or under your bed. 

-Use it in a crystal grid- Crystal grids work with sacred geometry to amplify the energy and intentions. Crystal grids incorporate the use of several types of crystals that work well together in addition to being placed in a specific geometrical pattern, when these combinations are combined the energy is boosted.  I will be creating a class teaching this in more detail in a future class.

-Wear a piece of Amethyst jewelry or keep it in your car, on your desk, in specific places throughout your home, or anywhere that seems to be a place where you experience stress. 

-Amethyst is also great for energy work and to help with the chakras. It can also boost other crystals that are intended to be used for building the third eye or your intuition. 

-Amethyst is said to also be able to protect a person from psychic attacks as well as bringing balance to one's life. 

PAIRING AMETHYST WITH OTHER CRYSTALS

Amethyst has an overall calming and peaceful energy. 

It is best to pair crystals with similar types of energy together. Pairing an energy boosting crystal with a calming crystal is going to cancel the two out and do nothing while possibly causing you to feel off balance. 

AMETHYST PAIRS WELL WITH: 

Amethyst + Clear Quartz for a deep spiritual cleansing.

Clear quartz amplifies any crystal it is paired with. This combination is going to boost the power of the amethyst and the intentions you have set for it. 

You can pair Amethyst + Clear Quartz + One of the following crystals to create a simple crystal grid!

Amethyst + Rose Quartz for divine love and calming.

This pairing can assist you with past traumas, grief, loss, and moving on from the past. 

Amethyst + Labradorite to boost psychic powers.

Combine these two crystals together when doing Reiki healing if the third eye or upper Chakras are needing to be the main focus.

This is also a great combination when meditating to connect psychically. 

Amethyst + Citrine To increase manifestation and wealth.

These two pair well together for a money bowl or can be worn together when manifesting wealth. 

Amethyst + Moonstone for deep peaceful sleep.

These two together have been known to send powerful messages from the Divine to the person sleeping with them together.

Amethyst + Blue Tigers Eye for help with addiction.

Amethyst helps to ward off temptation and can be used to help distract us from temptations. Blue Tigers Eye encourages self confidence and helps with concentration. Together these two can assist with the struggles of addiction and sobriety.

 Amethyst + Black Tourmaline for grounding and protection.

Black tourmaline is a really powerful grounding and protective stone on its own. When these two are paired together they can keep your aura cleansed and repel negative energies from affecting you. 

Of course there are other crystals that pair well with Amethyst.

You'll learn during your journey which crystals work well together and which ones you aren't a fan of. The more you build your relationship with your crystals the more you will understand the energies and pairings. Sometimes you may even receive a dream or have a random nudge to pair certain ones together.

Remember this isn't the same as making your grandmother's chocolate chip cookies- this isn't supposed to be a strict recipe or set of directions but more of a guide and nudge to encourage you to listen to your OWN inner voice and do what you feel intuitively guided to do.
