A simple warrior - Meet the blueberry

There’s a bowl of blueberries on the counter right now.

They don't really look like that big of a deal but those small little blue berries pack a punch when it comes to nutrition.

Today they are labeled a "superfood" but before food had rankings indigenous communities across North America would gather wild blueberries, dry them, and mix them with meat and fat to make pemmican. Pemmican is a high-energy survival food made of dried meat and fat. The Cree called it pimîhkân, these wild berries weren't a simple snack; they were essential for surviving long hard winters.

I fully believe that survival energy is still packed into the blueberries we eat today, that memory of being used to sustain life doesn't leave nature that easily.

Brain support

Blueberries are full of compounds called anthocyanins. That is where their deep blue color comes from. These compounds cross into the brain and reduce oxidative stress. Basically blueberries can help our brain feel less scrambled when we consume them on a consistent basis.

There have been studies showing improvements in memory, focus, and even mood with consistent blueberry intake. It isn't something you'll just immediately notice or something that will change your life on its own but they are a small piece of the bigger puzzle.

They’re often seen as something that is cooling to the system and are slightly astringent (they help tone tissues, especially digestion)

They also help to restore cells over time.

It isn't just the fruit that is edible

The leaves have been used traditionally for blood sugar support and gently for metabolic balance.

Blueberries are easy, they are a convenience food that can be quickly tossed into a salad, a breakfast grain bowl, eaten as a snack or thrown into a shake.

Similar to farm eggs...

Here is something interesting that I discovered recently, that white powdery dust looking stuff that covers blueberries, that is actually called the bloom (similar to farm eggs) this bloom protects the fruit from bacteria and helps preserve the fruit naturally. It is also a great sign that your berries haven't been overly handled or stripped down.

No one's life is getting fixed by blueberries

alone but incorporating them along with other simple and supportive choices is where things begin to improve.

If you’ve been wanting to feel better but don’t know where to start, this is exactly the kind of place you begin. I created the Sigh of Relief Method to make these adjustments feel natural instead of overwhelming.

This is where blueberries get really interesting

They have friends

Wild blueberry plants have a unique partnership with mycorrhizal fungi in the soil. These intelligent fungi help extend the reach of the blueberries root system which allows the plant to pull in nutrients from further away than it would be able to reach on its own. As a way of saying thank you to the fungi the plant feeds the fungi sugars. This network can connect multiple plants together, allowing nutrients to move between them.

So a stressed plant can literally get support from the network!

They are fire proof

Sort of, the wild lowbush blueberries have not only adapted to forest fires but they actually benefit from them. Instead of being wiped out by a fire they come back stronger. This is possible because the fire removes competing plants, those plants are recycled back into the soil, and this process gives back to the blueberry plant. Some of the most nutrient-dense blueberries come from land that has been burned.

They brought their own sunblock to the summer party

So, that blue color that comes from the anthocyanin compounds- those are actually there for the blueberries benefit and not just your mental health. Blueberries have that compound to protect themselves from UV radiation, temperature swings, and environmental stress. So we use that defense mechanism for our benefit when we eat them.

They are here for their tea reservation... please

During history when traditional tea was scarce or expensive people would use blueberry leaves to make a wild earthy tea. Originally used as a backup plan people began discovering the benefits of these leaves. They continued being used intentionally by herbalists for mild blood sugar balance and something gentle for digestion

Look at them differently next time

The next time you see blueberries I hope you view them from a different perspective. One where they are intelligent enough to have a whole entire underground network, where they are resilient enough to use their harsh environment to become stronger, and from the perspective that their defense tools can also be used for our protection as well. So no, I don't just have a bowl of blueberries on the counter, I have a very strong support team that is delicious and waiting to be put to work.

Before you scroll away

Not to be super dramatic or anything, but this could literally change your life. We know you aren't here because you have a thing for blueberries, you are here because you want an improvement in your life and you are sick and tired of feeling like it has to be something ridiculously difficult to see a difference. I'm not kidding, I made the whole entire Sigh Of Relief Method for this exact purpose. It was created to make your life better, and to remove all of the complicated and overwhelming guess work out of it. So yeah blueberries are amazing and beneficial but if you are looking for a miracle it won't come from a single ingredient, it can start here though... this one step is where real change begins
